GRADUATE APTITUDE TEST IN ENGINEERING (GATE)

This exam is one of the toughest exam for any students to crack as it is jointly organized by  Indian Institute of Science (IIS) & Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) , being the of Co -coordinator GATE as supervisor.

As the name of the exam tells that it is conducted to admit candidates in engineering level. The exam is conducted all over India both in Online & offline mode.

The candidate must be a graduate to take up this examination. The academic mark of applicant is considered for 30%, and only this entrance exam is considered as major criteria for admitting a candidate. More over this exam serves as a basis for awarding various government fellowships.

The applications will be issued in November & a candidate must select XE (Engineering Science) & XL (Life Science).

Along with XE or XL the applicants can select any 1 optional subjects listed in the application which is mandatory and candidate must attend a paper on general aptitude. The last date for receipt of applications will be in February.

This examination will test the logical & concepts like subject knowledge, problem solving skills, quantitative problem solving skills of the candidates.

The examination consists of 65 questions carrying totally 100 marks.

The concept of negative marking is applicable in this exam.

  • The question from 1-25 carries 1 mark for each question and 1/3rd of mark will be deducted as negative marking.
  • The question from 26-55 carries 30 marks totally and 2/3rd of mark will be deducted as negative marking.
  • The question from 56-60 carries 25 marks totally and 2-3rd of mark will be deducted as negative marking.
  • The question from 60-65 carries 20 marks totally and 2/3rd of mark will be deducted   as negative marking.

    GATE 2012 application form or GATE 2012 Notification – September 12, 2011
    Last Date for submitting GATE 2012 Application Form: October 17, 2011
    Gate 2012 Exam Date: January 29, 2012 and February 12, 2012
    GATE 2012 Result Announcement: March 15, 2012
    M.Tech admissions 2012: March 15, 2012 till July 2012
